I am referring to the song Pani Vizhum from the Tamil movie Ninaivellam Nithya, with music by Maestro Ilayaraja. I have always been an admirer of Ilayaraja's work, though he isn't one of my musical influences. However, in my humble opinion, no one can match Ilayaraja (and Laxmikant Pyarelal) when it comes really arranging and recording compositions using a full-fledged orchestra. Of course, 70% of his best works have been ruined by pathetic and sometimes really awful picturization in films. I don't find this song an exception either.
On the occasion of my 26th birthday as per the Tamil Calendar, I attempt Pani Vizhum on my guitar. This will be my first full-fledged attempt at a Tamil song.
NOTE: The track is actually performed on the D sharp/ E-flat Major Scale. People on Youtube have mistaken it for E major. I have taken the liberty to play it on D major.
